Are you worried about the signs of ageing? Do you look in the mirror and wish you could turn back the hands of time? At Este, we understand it can be hard to accept how we look when our skin starts to age, and thankfully, these days we don’t simply have to put up with it.

What is a Thread Lift?

A PDO (Polydioxanone) thread lift is an in-salon procedure that involves the use of medical grade polydioxanone threads. These threads don’t even have the thickness of a strand of hair, and they are made of protein. Over time – around 4-6 months – these threads are absorbed by your body in a process known as hydrolysis.

A non surgical PDO thread lift works by pulling your skin taut using the special threads that are ‘sewn’ into your skin. This form of non surgical face lift threading in the UK can be used for -

  1. Non surgical face lift
  1. Brow lift
  1. Jawline enhancement
  1. Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  1. Cheek enhancement
  1. Neck lift

How does a Thread Lift Work?

The PDO thread lift is a clever thing which delivers a two-pronged approach to tackling ageing skin. First off, there’s stage one. This happens once your aesthetician has threaded the area of your skin with the PDO thread. As this thread is woven through the upper layers of your skin it is then pulled taut to produce an uplifting effect. Your skin will appear instantly smoother, firmer, and tauter.

Then there’s the second stage of your thread lift, which occurs because of the first. This second stage is your body’s reaction to the PDO threads. Because your body detects a foreign matter, it works to start dealing with it. This is when it starts to produce more collagen. And everybody knows that more collagen means more youthful-looking skin.

How long does a Thread Lift Last?

There’s been quite a bit of research conducted into thread lifts, the benefits, and how long they last for. This clinical study found that the primary effects of a thread lift – the tighter, smoother appearance of skin - can last for around a year.

However, it also found that even up to three years post PDO thread lift, patients were still benefitting from rejuvenated skin. Which, we think you’ll agree, is pretty impressive as far as results for non-surgical procedures go.

Is a Thread Face Lift Safe?

Safety is paramount in our work at Este, and we always maintain the highest health and safety practices during our procedures. When you choose to have your thread face lift at a reputable skin clinic like Este, you can rest assured that the techniques we use are safe, our staff are all highly trained, and we wouldn’t perform a procedure we weren’t happy to have ourselves.

Is Thread Lift Painful?

Everyone has a different pain threshold. While some people may register a little discomfort during this procedure, others may not be particularly sensitive to the experience at all. If you are worried that it may be painful, we will of course do everything we can to make the procedure as stress-free and pain-free as possible for you.

We can apply a local anaesthetic to your skin beforehand. This will help to numb the area, ensuring you are kept as comfortable as possible throughout your treatment.

Should I have Botox or a Thread Lift?

We often get asked this question, and really what treatment you decide to have, is up to you. If you’re still not sure, here are some elements to consider:

With Botox you will -

  • Have results that last around 3-4 months
  • Have a quick treatment time of less than 30 minutes
  • Zero downtime
  • Be able to target deep wrinkles and creases

A PDO thread lift, meanwhile, gives you -

  • A long-lasting result of over a year and often longer
  • A treatment time of under an hour depending on the area being treated
  • Improved skin firmness
  • A reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and lines
  • A treatment that works instantly but also helps to boost collagen for a longer-lasting result

The main difference is that Botox will not make your body produce more collagen so it won’t be helping your body to kickstart a rejuvenation process of its own. What’s more, Botox also numbs the muscles whereas a PDO thread lift doesn’t.

If you’re considering non surgical face lift threading, our UK Este team will be happy to help. Simply book in for a free initial consultation, and we will be able to talk you through your treatment options and what a PDO thread lift procedure entails.
