Watch how Este Medical Group treats a client undergoing Exciplex® phototherapy for vitiligo.

Este is one of the first clinics in the UK to offer this skin-safe and effective treatment.

What is vitiligo?

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that is the result of the immune system attacking parts of your own body. With vitiligo the skin loses the ability to produce pigment and pigment forming cells are destroyed.

It is a common skin condition that results in patches of skin losing colour or skin pigment due to a lack of melanin. It can be identified by white patches on the skin’s surface. Unfortunately discoloured areas often spread larger over time.

Vitiligo’s white patches can be difficult to conceal, especially if on the face, neck, hands and feet. A solution to constantly trying to hide skin discolouration is an Este autoimmune skin treatment. Contact Este Medical Group through our website to book a vitiligo consultation

Can vitiligo be treated?

Yes, vitiligo can be treated professionally with an Exciplex® device that uses a specific UVB light wavelength directed over the skin’s surface. You can see in our Instagram video how the device is passed over the skin to target areas with vitiligo (i.e., white patches of skin).

Clients report no pain or discomfort during a vitiligo treatment. Small and larger areas of vitiligo can be treated using Exciplex® light therapy (e.g., up to  25 cm²). This professional treatment has CE marking (i.e., EU safety, health, environmental requirements), along with ISO 13485 certification in Europe, and is cleared by the US FDA.

How does vitiligo treatment work?

Exciplex® light therapy treatments help the body to stimulate repigmentation of vitiligo patches; it has been shown to stop or slow the progression of active vitiligo.

According to the NHS, evidence suggests that phototherapy or UVB light therapy has a positive effect on vitiligo. Find out more about treating vitiligo from a skincare expert at Este Medical Group — book an appointment to talk about your treatment expectations and beauty goals.
