Eyebrow Transplant Edinburgh – Natural Brow Restoration with DHI

Brows do not need to be completely missing for an eyebrow transplant to be worth discussing. A small gap through the tail, thinning after years of shaping, uneven density or an area affected by scarring can all change how the brows frame the face.

At Este Medical Group Edinburgh, you can have your eyebrows and donor hair assessed before deciding whether transplantation is appropriate. The aim is not to give everyone the same brow shape. It is to understand what you already have, what has been lost and what can realistically be restored with your own hair.

What Does an Eyebrow Transplant Actually Do?

An eyebrow transplant moves carefully selected hair follicles from a suitable donor area into parts of the brow where hair is thin, patchy or absent. Because living follicles are transplanted, the aim is to restore real hair growth rather than create the appearance of hairs with pigment alone.

Eyebrow work is much more detailed than simply filling an outline. Natural brow hairs sit close to the skin and change direction from the inner brow through to the arch and tail. The number, angle and position of the grafts therefore matter as much as the overall shape.

For a broader overview of the procedure, reconstruction and UK treatment options, see our eyebrow transplant UK guide.

Is an Eyebrow Transplant Right for Your Brows?

People come to us with very different starting points. Some want to replace hair that never grew back after years of plucking. Others have a small area of thinning, an uneven tail or a scar where brow hair no longer grows.

An eyebrow transplant may be worth assessing if you have:

  • Naturally sparse or fine eyebrows
  • Long-term thinning after repeated plucking or shaping
  • A visible gap within one or both brows
  • Uneven density between the two eyebrows
  • Partial eyebrow loss following previous injury or scarring
  • A brow tail that has become noticeably thinner
  • Previous microblading but now want to explore actual hair restoration

The reason for the hair loss matters. If brow thinning is recent, unexplained or still progressing, the sensible next step may be further assessment rather than going straight to surgery.

What We Assess at Your Edinburgh Consultation

A good eyebrow transplant plan starts before any grafts are counted. During your Edinburgh consultation, the team looks at the whole brow rather than only the area that bothers you most.

Your Existing Brow Pattern

We look at where your natural hair is still growing, which areas have thinned and whether the concern is a small gap, loss through the tail or more extensive eyebrow reconstruction.

Donor Hair

The donor area needs to provide suitable follicles. Hair thickness, texture and growth characteristics are considered because the transplanted hairs should sit naturally alongside any brow hair that remains.

Brow Shape and Proportion

The starting point, body, arch and tail of the brow are considered in relation to your facial features. Natural brows are not perfectly identical, so the aim is balanced restoration rather than creating two rigid mirror images.

Why the Hair Has Been Lost

Long-standing over-plucking and stable scarring are very different from active or unexplained hair loss. Understanding the likely cause helps the team decide whether transplantation is appropriate now or whether further assessment should come first.

Your Expectations

We discuss the amount of change you are hoping for and what donor hair can realistically achieve. This is also where recovery, shedding, regrowth and the need for ongoing trimming can be explained properly.

Why Eyebrow Hair Needs Such Careful Placement

A scalp hairline can contain thousands of hairs. An eyebrow uses far fewer, but each one is much more visible at close range. That makes direction and angle especially important.

The hairs at the front of the brow do not point in exactly the same direction as hairs through the middle or tail. They also tend to sit flatter against the skin than scalp hair. If grafts are placed too upright, too evenly or at the wrong angle, the result can look heavy even when the brow outline itself is correct.

For that reason, the treatment plan considers:

  • How low each hair should sit against the skin
  • The change in direction from the inner brow to the tail
  • Where a softer transition is needed around the edges
  • How the transplanted hairs will blend with existing brow hair
  • The amount of density that suits your starting point rather than a standard template

DHI Eyebrow Restoration: How the Grafts Are Placed

Este Medical Group uses DHI-based hair implantation techniques for detailed hair restoration. With eyebrow work, this gives the medical team close control over where individual follicles are positioned and the direction in which they are intended to grow.

Suitable donor follicles are selected, prepared and placed according to the agreed brow design. The exact technique, graft requirement and treatment plan are confirmed after assessment rather than applying the same approach to every patient.

If you are also researching scalp restoration, our Hair Transplant Edinburgh page explains Este Medical Group’s wider Robotic DHI approach.

What Can Be Restored?

Not every eyebrow transplant is a full reconstruction. In practice, many people only need targeted work.

  • A small gap through the body of the brow
  • A thin or missing outer tail
  • Density lost after years of over-plucking
  • An uneven section where one brow looks noticeably lighter than the other
  • A stable scar where hair growth is absent
  • More extensive restoration where very little eyebrow hair remains

The amount of donor hair needed changes with each of these situations, which is why a graft number taken from another person’s treatment is not a reliable guide for your own brows.

When We May Recommend Waiting or Further Assessment

Sometimes the most useful outcome from a consultation is being told that surgery should wait.

We may advise further assessment where eyebrow hair loss is new, changing quickly, unexplained or potentially linked to an active medical condition. Hair transplantation replaces follicles in an area; it does not diagnose or treat the underlying reason for ongoing hair loss.

If transplantation is unlikely to give a stable result, donor hair is unsuitable, or expectations cannot be met safely, the team should explain that before treatment is planned.

Eyebrow Transplant or Microblading?

These treatments are often compared, but they do different jobs.

Microblading places pigment into the skin to imitate the look of eyebrow hairs. An eyebrow transplant places living donor follicles into the brow so that real hair can grow in the treated area.

Someone with reasonable brow hair who mainly wants colour or sharper definition may have different priorities from someone with genuine gaps or very sparse growth. Previous microblading does not automatically rule out a transplant, but the skin, existing hairs and desired result still need to be assessed.

How Many Grafts Are Needed for an Eyebrow Transplant?

There is no useful one-size-fits-all graft number for eyebrow restoration. A small missing section in one brow can require a very different plan from rebuilding both brows.

Your graft requirement depends on the size of the area, how much natural hair remains, donor-hair characteristics, the shape being planned and how much density can be created without making the brows look artificial. A personalised figure is therefore more meaningful than a generic online estimate.

What Happens After an Eyebrow Transplant?

Early healing can include some redness, mild swelling and small scabs around the implanted area. Your aftercare instructions will explain how to protect the grafts during this stage.

The transplanted hairs commonly shed before new growth begins. This can be alarming if you are not expecting it, but shedding of the hair shaft is a recognised part of the transplant cycle. New growth then develops gradually over the following months and continues to mature over time.

Because the donor follicles are commonly taken from the scalp, the new eyebrow hairs may grow longer than your original brow hair. Once established, light trimming can become part of normal grooming. Recovery and growth are individual, so the team will give you advice based on your own procedure rather than a fixed timeline copied from another patient.

How Much Does an Eyebrow Transplant Cost in Edinburgh?

The price of eyebrow transplantation depends on the treatment plan rather than the city name alone. The amount of hair being restored, graft requirement, donor-hair suitability and the complexity of the brow design all affect the final quotation.

For example, adding density to a small section of one eyebrow is not the same procedure as reconstructing both brows. We therefore recommend assessment before giving a final price.

Eyebrow Transplant Edinburgh FAQs

Can I have an eyebrow transplant consultation in Edinburgh?
Yes. You can arrange an eyebrow transplant consultation at Este Medical Group Edinburgh, 37 York Place. The team can assess your existing brow growth, donor hair, likely cause of thinning and the result you would like to achieve before recommending treatment.
The Edinburgh clinic supports consultation, assessment, treatment planning and patient care. Este Medical Group’s CQC-registered surgical service is located in Birmingham. If surgery is recommended, the exact treatment location and arrangements will be confirmed before you consent.
It may be possible where hair has not returned after long-term over-plucking. Suitability depends on the condition of the brow area, the amount of existing hair and whether suitable donor follicles are available.
Previous microblading does not automatically prevent eyebrow transplantation. Your skin, existing brow hairs, pigment and treatment goals should be assessed before a recommendation is made.
There is no standard graft number for every patient. The amount depends on how much of one or both eyebrows needs restoring, your existing density, donor-hair characteristics and the brow design being planned.
They often will. Donor follicles commonly come from the scalp and can keep some of their original growth characteristics, so the transplanted hairs may grow longer than natural eyebrow hair and need occasional trimming.
The transplanted hairs may shed during the early growth cycle before new hair develops. Growth then appears gradually over the following months and continues to mature over time. Your team will explain the expected timeline for your individual treatment.
The cost depends on the extent of restoration, donor-hair suitability, graft requirement and complexity of the brow design. A personalised quotation can be provided after your eyebrows and donor area have been assessed.
